AUTOMATION EXAMPLES

X (Twitter): do & don't

Same trigger, different action, very different outcome. These are real rule shapes SocFlow supports today — paired with the compliant alternative for the same goal.

Welcoming new followers

Don't

New follower → Send DM

Auto-DM every new follower a welcome message and a product link.

X only permits an automated DM when the recipient already asked to be contacted — following you isn't consent, no matter what the message says. SocFlow doesn't offer Send DM as an action on X at all, for exactly this reason.

Do

New follower → Tag author

Flag each new follower so you can send a genuine, individually-written welcome yourself.

No automated message ever reaches the person — SocFlow just surfaces who to follow up with, on the Contacts page.

Reacting to brand mentions

Don't

Keyword match → Reply

Auto-reply to every tweet containing your brand name, from anyone.

X separately bans replying based on a keyword search alone, and a keyword search doesn't guarantee the tweet mentions or was authored by your account either — so it fails on X's side too. SocFlow doesn't offer Reply as an action on this trigger for exactly this reason.

Do

Keyword match → Tag author

Flag matching tweets so you can jump into the conversation personally.

You decide, tweet by tweet, whether and how to engage.

Auto-replying directly

Don't

Someone quotes my tweet → Reply

Auto-reply whenever your tweet gets quoted.

A quote embeds your tweet by URL — it doesn't guarantee your handle appears in the quoting tweet's text, so X can reject the reply the same way it does for a keyword match.

Do

Someone mentions me → Reply

Reply automatically only when your account is the one actually @mentioned.

This is the one trigger X guarantees satisfies its reply restriction — the mention itself is the proof.

Following people back

Don't

New follower (no filters) → Follow

Follow back every single new follower, unconditionally.

X prohibits following or unfollowing in a bulk, aggressive, or indiscriminate manner — following everyone with zero criteria is exactly that.

Do

New follower, filtered (e.g. Followers > 100, or Is verified) → Follow

Follow back only accounts that match real criteria you set.

A deliberate, targeted follow rule isn't indiscriminate — the filters are what make the difference.

Posting on a schedule

Don't

New post → Post

Repost the same or near-identical text on a loop.

X rejects an exact repeat as duplicate content, and near-identical reposting reads as spam even when the text isn't a perfect match.

Do

New post → Post

Post fresh, varied text each time.

SocFlow blocks an exact repeat automatically, but the variation itself still has to come from what you write.

Likes have no compliant automated version

X bans automated likes outright, with no consent exception — unlike replies, DMs, or follows, there's no filter or targeting that makes it safe. SocFlow doesn't offer an automated like action on X for this reason.
